Schaumburg, IL – June 11, 2026 – NCOM is pleased to announce the hiring of Dr. Richard Geshel as its inaugural Chief of Osteopathic Principles and Practice. This role is foundational for any college of osteopathic medicine as it is responsible for ensuring the principles and practice of osteopathic medicine are incorporated and ever-present throughout each and every student’s medical education journey.

Dr. Geshel is a graduate of Northern Arizona University with degrees in Zoology and History while also being a graduate of the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine where his fire and passion for field of osteopathic medicine were fully ignited. Following his years of service in both the Army and Navy, he completed his residency training in Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine at Michigan State University. Dr. Geshel’s passions culminated in attaining his Board Certification in Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine, giving him a unique perspective on the inner workings of the human body. He has operated his own medical practice while also having held over a decade of appointments in academic teaching and leadership including a successful tenure at a new Osteopathic Medical School start-up in Maryland (where he served as Interim Chair of OMM), his second Inaugural school start.

“Dr. Geshel has a deep and proven track record as an academic leader and educator,” said Founding Dean and Chief Academic Officer Dr. K. Scott Whitlow, DO, CS, FAAEM. “Dr. Geshel’s work in the field of osteopathic medicine, especially his unwavering commitment to its principles and practice, made him a logical choice for this important role at NCOM.”

“The key to successful matriculation of osteopathic medicine students is the understanding of and adherence to the principles and practice of our field in all aspects of their education,” Dr. Geshel stated. “With a whole-person care approach to practicing osteopathic medicine, NCOM will be primed to graduate the next, and best, generation of medical professionals.”
